“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
How can we be ourselves if we don't know who we really are?
How do we find out who we really are?
How many times in our lives have we been told to be ourselves through advice from others?
''Just be yourself and you'll be fine''
It's such a vague adage. What does it really mean, to be yourself?
And is it really as easy as it sounds?
In order to be our true selves we need to understand, and accept ourselves first and know what our values are, why we do what we do and for who.
Letting go of the past in order to let ourselves grow is paramount to becoming our true selves. We can't fixate on the past or let a period of time define us to be who we are as it hinders our personal growth for the future aswell as being present in the now.
We need to focus on our best qualities and strengths rather than compare ourselves to others, we are so unique and special in our own way. There is no other person the same as you in the world. We must embrace our individual uniqueness.
Be honest and open.
What have we got to hide? We're all imperfect, growing, learning human beings. If we feel ashamed or insecure about any aspect of ourselves and we feel that we have to hide those parts of ourselves, whether physically or emotionally then we have to come to terms with that and learn to convert our so-called flaws into individualistic quirks or simply as basic, down-to-earth acknowledgments of our own imperfections.
Don't care so much about what other people think. We lose so much personal power when we let other people's opinions affect how we feel about ourselves.
When we laugh at ourselves more life is more relaxed and fun.
It's such a lovely quality to be able to laugh at ourselves.
